I think that topic has been discussed time and over again. True, there is real "Rare" where a game may have a low print run or be limited in some way, and then there is what most people generally describe as "Rare", meaning simply sought after. But for the sake of this topic here, "Rare" can mean either ~ If it strictly meant the former meaning, then i'd only have a handful of games in my list, which can truely be described as rarities amongst the collecting community. It's all down to supply and demand, and some true "Rare" games (Those which may have had a low print run), may not be worth a great deal; Whereas some games which have sold millions, could have sealed variants which are just very sought after (Like Final Fantasy VII for example), and which command a higher price tag due to this fact
And as mentioned above, who is to say what games truely are "Rare" ~ I for one consider a great portion of my sealed games as "Rare", simply because they are in rare condition, even if the games themselves aren't anything particularly special. If I were to strictly narrow down my list, I would probably have two / three consoles, and about a dozen games
If I were to amend my list, it would look something similar to this (Where I also justify why I consider them to be rare):
Consoles:
Pink Hello Kitty Dreamcast (NTSC J) plus SegaKara add-on (NTSC J) ~ I consider this to be "Rare" as it had a lower print run than most Dreamcast consoles. Also, it was not released outside of Japan, which makes it even more sought after around the world. The SegaKara add-on is just something extra I picked up at the same time, and together makes a nice import package (I would imagine there are very few Pink Hello Kitty + SegaKara combo's in UK collector's hands)
Final Fantasy II WonderSwan Color (NTSC J) ~ I consider this to be "Rare" as it had a lower print run than most WonderSwan Color consoles. Also, it was not released outside of Japan, which makes it even more sought after around the world.
Crystal Blue Halo II Xbox (SEALED) (NTSC U/C) ~ I consider this to be "Rare" as it had a lower print run than most Xbox consoles. Also, I believe this particular model was only released in Canada, which makes it even more sought after around the world. It is also still factory sealed
Super Red PlayStation 2 (Limited to only 2,000 units worldwide) (NTSC U/C) ~ I consider this to be "Rare" as it had a lower print run than most PlayStation 2 consoles. Although released in each region, there were only 2,000 units of this particular colour produced worldwide (666 Units per region). It is part of the "European Automobile" collection, of which there were five separate colours (The others being Yellow, Blue, White, and Silver). All are finished in higher quality paint used for cars, and the plastic used for the case is rumoured to be thicker and stronger than most regular models. It also comes with matching controller and vertical stand, and a certificate of authenticity. Each console is numbered with a unique serial number starting with the letter of the colour (In this case, R for Red), followed by all zero's and finally the unit production number (Presumably 0,001-2,000)
Silver Zelda Phantom Hourglass Nintendo DS Lite (Limited to only 1,000 units) (EURO) ~ I consider this to be "Rare" as it had a lower print run than most Dreamcast consoles. Also, it was not released outside of the EU, which makes it even more sought after around the world. Commissioned strictly for the indepandant Nintendo traders of the UK and Europe, only 1,000 Zelda units were created for sale only by the independants upon launch of Phantom Hourglass. These units are silver DS Lite's with black Zelda Phantom Hourglass logo's on them. Package also includes a copy of the game. Made even rarer by the fact that the UK didn't receive any other Zelda DS Lite model, unlike the US. This is also one of the first "Proper" Limited Edition DS consoles for sale in the UK and Europe
Crystal Green 1st Anniversary Xbox (PAL) ~ I consider this to be "Rare" as it had a lower print run than most Xbox consoles. Produced to celebrate the first anniversary of the Xbox in the UK, these crystal green packages are quite hard to come by compared to the Crystal and Black models which were produced side-by-side later in the consoles life. Package came with two matching controller S's
Resident Evil 4 GameCube (PAL) ~ I consider this to be "Rare" as it had a lower print run than most GameCube consoles. The package also included a matching dual-coloured controller featuring Resident Evil 4 logo's, plus a bonus disc that is in high demand by Resident Evil collector's
Halo III X360 (SEALED) (PAL) ~ I consider this to be "Rare" as it had a lower print run than most X360 consoles.
