does the 40gb HDD NTSC works for the PAL ps2's? i couldn't find any info on this on google. any help would be appreciated.. thanks in advance
I dont think that this would work.
The only info I can give you is that I had a japanese PS2 and HDD and it didnt work with a friends PAL PS2.

I wouldn't have thought so, as the unit would probably be optimised for NTSC machines. There might be all sorts of power compatability issues amongst other things
There's not really much point in putting it in a PAL PS2 anyway. I assume you have the Final Fantasy XI box set? I'm also assuming you'd want to use the hard drive for playing emulator's and copies games etc, as there's not any other reason for inserting the hard drive into the PS2, seeing as FF XI can't be played here - Even if you had an NTSC U console in this country, it's still pretty useless

i have a bunch of these new and i am selling them through amazon. i had a question from someone in Scotland if these would work on a pal ps2. i assume that they would since i didnt think that they would bother to put a region lock to it since its technically just a peripheral and not a game.

Oh right. I misinterpretted the useage.
As far as I am aware, any old compatable hard drive will work in the hard drive space. You require the necessary software to utilise it though, and these discs fetch anywhere around £80 on eBay, but do allow you to store games on thehard drive and access them directly (Back-up's or blatent pirates, as well as emu's)
There's still the matter of power compatability though. Some peripherals intended for Japanese or US use aren't compatable with UK spec consoles due to the power. After all, everything you plug into your console, be it a controller or hard drive, requires power. Sometimes there are problems with the power conversion, and you could harm either the peripheral or console or both by using it on a machine that's not the same spec as the peripheral was intended for.
In all honesty, the buyer should know before buying whether or not they are compatable. They should do their homework first, seeing as they have obviously researched it enough to have a use for it in the first place... I find it hard to believe they would want it simply to fill up the hole and make the console heavier than it already is...

i think that is one of the reasons why they chose a slimmer more portable ps2 and since they didnt have any other game that really uses the drive it was an easy decision to remove support for it. anyways since i am not finding any info about it, i assume that it wouldnt work due to the power differences.

i think that is one of the reasons why they chose a slimmer more portable ps2 and since they didnt have any other game that really uses the drive it was an easy decision to remove support for it. anyways since i am not finding any info about it, i assume that it wouldnt work due to the power differences.
