Sealed Game Heaven — Forgotten Freshness
← General Sealed Discussion
I have long been wanting to see a New/Sealed price database which lists the prices that items sold for on auction sites and/or online shops. A way of recording the history of prices, together with other information describing say the titles history, numbers produced, rarity, interesting stories etc.

Would people find that useful?

Of course they would.
sure !
If you want you can creat a extra thread or html page on our message board where you can update a list like that ! contact me via pm!
You'd need like at least 10 users who frequently update the list and know everything that's on eBay, yahoo etc.
yeah thats right!

Very useful indeed

Or if someone has some programming skills , he can always make a program that automatically track's the prices.

yeah the program can track the prices and write automatically a html table and a game list with prices which the user can upload to an ftp account (or some other webspace) and update a list on our page!

anyone can do this

?
That requires A LOT of skill because the games aren't always on sale in the same way.
Telling a program to check "Super Mario 64 sealed" isn't enough to get the right prices. Somebody might say "new" or it's only in French or whatever.

Creating a database which is accessable for approved users to change things and collecting information would be way easier
we would find it useful, maybe you know the french website "mistergameprice", which give an approximation for game's prices.
It would be nice and useful to do about the same for sealed games !!
I think if we have not at least 10 people or one who can creat a special program we should use our "What's it worth" section to build up a nice sealed price database !
Why don't we start a topic, where people can offer their help? Probably we reach 10 persons?
I was actually thinking a HTML page / website rather than on this forum run by crew members. Make it public so that anyone can submit prices which is backed up by a link or details of sale which MUST be verified by a crew member. A table listing say: Picture, Title, System, Place sold, Date, Price, Average price, Grade 1-10 (which may descibe the actual condition of the item i.e poor (tear on seal), flawless (mint condition etc), Additional comments.

Not sure the legalities of copying information or PDFing a file of say an ebay aution would be... but maybe gaining the consent of the person who lists the item to host a picture especially if it's a rare item.

Would it be possible to such a page on www.sealedgameheaven.com (https://www.sealedgameheaven.com) ??
Yeah it is possible!
And I also can creat a page like this for www.sealedgameheaven.com (https://www.sealedgameheaven.com) but as a student I have no time ...

So we should search another html/php/mysql programmer who can do this job for us.

But I REALLY LOVE the whole idea and I would support it of course!

The only thing we need now is a script that do the things you said (maybe we should add the option to upload the picture which we make for every auction in the same form ...).

EDIT: I have found a person who maybe will make the job for us
Nice, is he gonna do it for us?
I am talking to him at the moment ....

so we will see
Ok.... Fingers Crossed...
He will do it  !

But one of us should write a mail to ebay and yahoo auctions to ask if it is allowed to creat a screenshot of any auction and upload it ...
try this:

http://pages.ebay.com/help/community/permission-request.html
great!
maybe we can start our database at the and of this week

!

Good stuff! I really hope something like this drives the traffic up on this site and hopefully interest in new sealed games overall.
Hmm... Any progress on this?
programm has been finished but I got a mail from ebay that this is against there copyrights.
You are not allowed to make any screenshots of there auctions to save them in a database

!

So I think we can not do this

!

Hmm.. I guess maybe you misunderstood something here.
I guess they thought you gonna make profit from it. eg. Maybe the word "database" for them means "illegal commercial profit".
But is not for profit and only for collector's purposes i guess. Any person in the world can save screenshot from ebay and store them in it's own database for their own reasons. And this has to do nothing with ebay.
hehe thats definitly wrong!
I wrote that it is a non commercial project.
The answer was that everyone can save screenshots for his own use but you are not allowed to upload them and present them on any webpage ...

but if you want you can write a mail to ebay.com too and ask again

... maybe you have more luck
Do we need the screenshots from ebay?
We can just write it down...or is it too much work?
Like this:

Valkyrie Profile sealed - 302,22 Dollar - 12.11.2007 (auction ended in the morning 9 a.m.)
Valkyrie Profile sealed - 343,22 Dollar - 26.11.2007 (auction ended in the prime time)
Valkyrie Profile sealed (small crack) - 244,11 Dollar - 02.12.2007 (....)
